Cars, Boats, Strollers & Shoulders

Taking kids anywhere can be, well, interesting. I am finding that these days we need far fewer contraptions and bags. In fact, we can roll with one Pottery Barn monogrammed preschool sized backpack, a bazillion bags of fruit snacks and maybe, just maybe, make it out without the umbrella stroller. On this expedition, we thought it would be fun to spend the day in Old Town Alexandria, a favorite of the Kerrs. But we would get really crazy and take the ferry over to the National Harbor on the Maryland (gasp!) side. It was quite a hot and sticky adventure on these cobblestone streets (sweating like it's 1788 - just like I love to say). And, just when I was going to marvel at how well behaved my kiddos were, Bridget had a meltdown becuase it was too hot and her brother was going to throw his prized possessions in the water. And, two, Sam flipped his lid at the Italian restaurant because he had to share (another gasp) his noodles with his sister. Oh, feel the love, people!

Doesn't Bridget look 10 in this picture?
Amazing - both of these 'Chuckys' are smiling.
This is the shoulder part of the adventure. Doesn't Marc look all tough guy in this pic?
Love this patriot shot - the flag, the curls, the ruffles - George Washington would be proud.
What could induce a bigger smile?! Ice cream.
Wow. Chucky smiles!
